Celebrate Your Literacy Hero

Tuesday 8th September is International Literacy Day and we would like to celebrate all of the Literacy Heroes in our lives - a teacher who inspired your love of reading or helped you overcome a literacy issue, a family member who shares and encourages your passion for literature, or perhaps someone in your community who helps others improve their literacy. Whoever it is, we want to thank them for their contribution to literacy.

More details to follow.

Literacy Quiz

Do you know your Austen from your Bronte? Is your spelling and grammar up to scratch? On Saturday 18th September 8pm UK time, we will be holding a literacy quiz live on Facebook. Whether you want to test your literature and literacy knowledge or just enjoy the fun, tune in LIVE or watch as a video later - whatever suits you best.

For families and younger children, there will be a quiz to download and play at home.

Parade for Literacy

In June every year we retrace Jane Austen’s footsteps and walk 400m from her cottage in the middle of Chawton to her brother Edward’s house, Chawton House, where Jane enjoyed use of Edward’s library. As we are unable to gather in person this year, we wanted to end our Literacy Month with the fun of the Parade on Sunday 27th September - wherever we are in the world. Whether you parade around your sitting room, in the garden, or up the street, let’s celebrate literacy by parading with a book (Regency attire optional) and sharing a photo of your parade #litmonth2020

Our Parade for Literacy 2019

Whether you participate in one or all of our activities, we hope you enjoy our Literacy Month and join us in celebrating our love of reading, writing and all things literacy.

More details and literacy treats will be shared throughout the month on our Facebook page @JaneAustenLF
