Caroline and I were excited to launch our Literacy Mentors program on 8th September 2018 - International Literacy Day!

The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation has partnered with Pobble, an organisation committed to supporting teachers as they make writing ridiculously exciting for children through school programs and online tools.

Together we make writing ridiculous.jpg

Our team of Literacy Mentors provide encouragement and feedback to school students on their writing, using Pobble’s online platform. The program is a wonderful example of how JALF collaborates with partner organisations to deliver powerful literacy outcomes!

I am delighted to already have 14 Literacy Mentors in our global team, representing England, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and the Netherlands! In its first month, the Literacy Mentors’ team has already provided feedback for 115 student submissions! Our program partner Pobble has been overwhelmed by the support of the Literacy Mentors’ team and are excited to partner us with nine targeted schools.

The program is a wonderful opportunity for those who are passionate about literacy to support school students in a simple and practical way. Literacy Mentors volunteer approximately 2-3 hours per month to read and provide brief comments on students’ writing from the comfort of their own homes. Literacy Mentors don’t require education qualifications, just a passion to foster excitement in children to continue writing!

If you would like to join the Literacy Mentors team or would like more information, please send me an email at literacymentors@janeaustenlf.org for an information pack.
